Crystal Lake, IL) Baxter & Woodman, Inc. and RFP Mapping LLC, both of Crystal Lake, Ill., have created a strategic relationship to provide state-of- the-art, high-resolution satellite imagery and analysis to a variety of clients and municipalities throughout northeast Illinois and southeast Wisconsin.
In business for 60 years, Baxter & Woodman provides civil engineering services to more than 500 municipalities, counties and sanitary districts. RFP Mapping LLC focuses on environmentally friendly economic development. The company specializes in the analysis of high-resolution satellite and vertical aerial imagery.
The combined capabilities of the two firms will provide a high degree of distinctive mapping capabilities and interpretive analysis. This unique data will be available to all municipalities in the greater Chicago-land area beginning in early summer 2008.
“We are particularly pleased to have engaged in this unique opportunity with RFP Mapping LLC,” said Darrel Gavle, PE, BCEE, president and chief executive officer of Baxter & Woodman. “Our affiliation, cooperative marketing and service capabilities with RFP Mapping LLC will allow us to offer new and innovative approaches to the challenges faced by our public sector clients such as forestry and tree preservation, storm water management, water ecology and rapid commercial and housing development.”
“We are extremely pleased that Baxter & Woodman has committed to our strategic alliance. As an evolving business it lends a tremendous amount of reinforcement to our business model. Being associated with a leading civil engineering consulting firm with a long-standing history of client success and support affords exciting opportunities for bringing better decision making information to a many communities,” said William Peel partner of RFP Mapping LLC. “As important is the fact that our businesses share a common goal, which is to improve and sustain the environment where our clients and employees reside.”
RFP Mapping LLC and NCDC Imaging of Colorado Springs, Colo., are developing a unique mapping project that has begun in Chicago with a business model that is securing international attention.
These two firms are spearheading a high-resolution land cover mapping program covering thousands of square miles in the greater Chicago and metropolitan area. The project will create datasets useful for planning, budgeting and modeling on a very large scale, thus providing cost-effective, off-the-shelf GIS information for individual municipalities or collaborative, regional studies. These datasets are scientific tools providing people with the means to make better informed decisions about natural resource management and a sustainable green infrastructure.
Key to this program is the use of the data in applications for urban water conservation and watershed mapping. More specifically, it may be used to: plan for and comply with EPA Clean Water Act, plan and manage storm water capital improvement projects, perform hydrologic modeling and degradation assessments, develop long-term water conservation strategies and sustain biodiversity. Additionally, the GIS information can be incorporated into existing mapping software for public viewing, input, participation and education on the importance of greening our cities.
Availability of this data will place Chicago and the surrounding communities at the leading edge of sustainable and collaborative green planning.
